NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - After 28 years as the organization behind First Night in Northampton, this will be the last year the Northampton Center for the Arts will sponsor the event.

Director Penny Burke told 22News that the event has grown, but the organization has not and it's time to pass it along.

The Northampton Center for the Arts loses its lease for the New South Street building in the spring of 2013.

There is word yet on who will take over the popular New Year's event, but Burke hopes that other organizations will band together to keep it going.

Details on performances and other events at this year's First Night Northampton are available on their website: firstnightnorthampton.org
