NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - A highly-contested Register of Deeds race took center stage Thursday night in Hampshire County.

Three democratic candidates were vying for the office of the Hampshire Registry of Deeds. With 100% of the precincts reporting, it was a close race to the finish.

Mary Olberding won the Democratic primary with 37% of the vote. Bonnie MacCracken lead the count in Amherst 2 to 1, but placed in second behind Olberding with 34% of the vote.

Easthampton native Timothy O'Leary took Easthampton, but fell short with 29% of the vote; while Olberding claimed victory in Northampton.

For the last 25 years, the office was held by incumbent Marianne Donahue. Donahue retired last September.
