NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - More people went shopping this past holiday weekend.
A record of 247 million shoppers visited stores and shopped online throughout the four day weekend.
That's up from 226 million last year. The National Retail Federation says people also spent more money than expected, opening up their wallets for electronics and toys.
Ken Watkins of Target said, “The line wrapped around the building but we did have crowd control plans in place where we only let 30 people in per 30 seconds to keep a flow throughout the building.”
And even though today is Cyber Monday, new figures from comScore, an Internet analytics firm, shows shoppers in the U.S. spent more than a billion dollars in online shopping on Black Friday.
