NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Governor Patrick has banned all road travel after 4pm.
Emergency officials are asking you to stay off the roads to allow DPW crews to clear the streets safely.
Governor Patrick announced no toll collections after 2pm Friday. He's banned road travel after 4pm. Several accidents and spinouts have been reported on the MassPike already.
We took a ride around Easthampton and noticed that roads were slippery even though there was just about a half an inch coating. But when these winds start to pick up and we start to see that heavier snowfall, that will reduce visibility.
DPW crews were filling trucks with sands, pre-treating roads. Mountain Road has been closed to thru traffic.
We spoke to people running last minute errands just before 1pm.
“I'm hoping to be going home by about two, when I go back to work we'll go in and see what everyone’s plans are,” said John Brook of Granby. “Since I left to get lunch about twenty minutes ago, the conditions have changed noticeably; it was barely coating on the street now it's sticking.”
Governor Patrick has declared a state of emergency, there is a snow emergency in effect in Northampton. That means there's a parking ban. Parking on all city streets and in city parking lots is prohibited from 12:01am-6am, except for Main St. where parking is prohibited from 2am-7am.
