AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Amherst snow lovers are welcoming the prospect of a significant winter snowstorm, which will make the town’s annual Winterfest a memorable one.

24 hours of falling snow is just what Winterfest organizers say will make this year's festival one to remember. 1,500 to 2,000 people have attended this event every year for the last six years.

Amherst Leisure Services will host a day of sledding, cross country skiing and live music at the Cherry Hill Golf Course.

Leisure Services rented a snowmaker to give the event an authentic winter feel. But now they won't need "man-made" snow. In fact, they've postponed the start of Winterfest by one day.

“It's going to pile up. So in order to keep everybody safe and off the roads Saturday morning, we are postponing until Sunday. So same events, everything will happen Sunday,” said Barb Bilz, Assistant Director of Amherst Leisure Services.

This year's Winterfest in Amherst will now take place on Sunday at the Cherry Hill Golf Course, starting at 1:00 P.M. For information on the day's events, visit the town’s website at amherstma.gov .
