Tax forms affected by late fiscal cliff deal

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - The IRS tax filing season is underway, but not everyone can file.

That's because several tax forms were affected by the late fiscal cliff deal.

Anyone who needs to claim residential energy credits, the depreciation or amortization of a property, or a general business credit will have to wait until late February. The IRS says an estimated 120 million people who file with a 1040 form can start Wednesday.

Northampton's H&R Block manager Hank Fil told 22News the best way to streamline the process is to remember to bring the basics to your tax professional.

“Their W2s, their 1099 interest forms, if they own a home make sure you bring your interest statement from the bank,” said Fil. “ Real estate payments they've made, any educational expense that they may have for either themselves or their children.”

Regardless of the delay getting started, the tax filing deadline is still April 15th.
