HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) - They may be cute to look at, but a growing squirrel population is becoming a headache for homeowners and fruit growers.
Fish and wildlife experts say squirrels are trusting of humans and can live in any area as long as there are big shade trees.
But southern Vermont fruit growers say all these squirrels are ruining crops.
Baystate Exterminating in Amherst told 22News the mild winter gave way to a spike in the squirrel population.
Hadley Garden Center's owner says he's selling a lot of rodent repellent.
“Not necessarily a recent development, we've had a lot of folks coming in since the late spring time having problem with squirrels and chipmunks,” Tom Giles told 22News. “In fact a few rodents were getting into their vegetable gardens.”
