NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Massachusetts State Troopers responding to a tanker truck fire on Interstate 91 South Sunday afternoon proceeded with extreme caution.

Sergeant McKenna from the Northampton State Police Barracks told 22News the entire southbound side of the highway was shut down, as a precaution, as firefighters tried to determine what the tanker was carrying.

Turns out it was full of milk. The tanker belonged to Harris Milk Transport out of Belchertown.

Sergeant McKenna said the truck's rear axles caught fire as it passed exit 23.

Traffic was diverted off the highway onto Route 5 until crews removed the burned tanker truck. Both lanes have since reopened.

Nobody was hurt.
