EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - In the second thin-ice fall in Hampshire County in the last two days, two teenagers have been hospitalized after falling into a frigid pond in Easthampton.
Police Captain Steven Kennedy told 22News that officers were called to Nashawannuck Pond around 12:30 after receiving reports of two young men in the water. By the time officers arrived, the two had gotten themselves out.
Kennedy said that the teens are believed to have gone to an area where the ice was open and there was water flow underneath.
Both were taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, but are expected to be okay.
The incident comes just one day after two ice fishermen had to be rescued after falling through the ice at Metacomet Lake in Belchertown.
Kennedy told 22News that these incidents should serve as a reminder that at this time of year, no ice is safe ice.
