SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (wwlp) - Holyoke firefighters went to South Hadley to help put out a garage fire that left two people with no place to stay Friday night.
South Hadley Fire Chief Bob Authier told 22News the fire engulfed the attached garage and upper level storage area at 45 Pynchon Street at about 5:30 pm Friday. Part of the roof collapsed.
One of the occupants told investigators that he had stained the deck earlier in the day, and left some materials in the garage, but it's not known if that's what started the fire.
The South Hadley Building Inspector condemned the house pending a closer look at the structural damage. The couple who lives there was forced to find someplace else to sleep Friday night. The Red Cross was not called.
Chief Authier called the State Fire Marshal's Office to help his investigators determine the cause.
The Holyoke fire fighters were pulled from the Pynchon Street fire to work on a fire that started on Water Street in Holyoke.
No one was hurt in South Hadley.
