AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - UMass Amherst is getting ready to kick off its football season.
Everyone's pretty excited about this upcoming season for it is their last one at McGuirk Stadium for a while.
The team will be moving up a division and will be playing their games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough starting in 2012.
It's a decision that has upset some local fans and business owners but one of the team's super fans told us he'll follow this team anywhere.
"It's not a long drive. I drive up from here and I think people in Western Massachusetts hopefully are going to drive down and still support the team. I know we have out there and I'm looking forward to them seeing them in Gillette for the next three years,” said Joe Moro of Upton.
The team's coach told us that they are hoping to get back to McGuirk Stadium eventually. The University is hoping to raise enough money to renovate the stadium to bring back their team but for now, UMass will be playing at Gillette for at least three years starting next year.
