AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - The Mid-American Conference is cashing in off of Northern Illinois crashing the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) party, but UMass won't see any of the cash benefits.
For the first time in conference history the MAC has a team playing in a BCS Bowl. Northern Illinois will play Florida State on New Year's Day in the Orange Bowl.
According to Forbes , the estimated payout to the MAC for having a team in a BCS game is somewhere between $17-18 million.
Ken Mather with the Mid-American Conference told 22News "our conference policy is to distribute football related revenue equally among our members, however, we do not discuss financial specifics."
Since UMass is in a transition year, it is not eligible for any football related revenue this season. They will be eligible next season.
