AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - UMass Amherst is being saluted for supporting our troops. The University is among the top schools considered "military friendly."
According to G.I. Jobs Magazine , UMass is a leader in setting an education foundation for veterans and military personnel.
The magazine ranked UMass in the top 15% of the most "military friendly" schools in the country. The University received high praise for its access to veterans’ counselors, career placement, and child care facilities.
UMass students 22News spoke with Friday said they are glad that the University is providing resources for vets.
“You hear stories all the time about how veterans come back and they don't receive the treatment they probably should, when in actuality they are the ones fighting for our country,” freshman Christopher Martinez said.
“Having someone be here, that someone can kind of lean on when they are coming back and saying you know things are going to be good, you've got all this laid out for you, you got an education going; that's the one thing I feel it's most important,” freshman Eva MacDonald said.
UMass Amherst currently serves more than 400 student-veterans.
