AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - A UMass freshman is accused of raping a visitor in his dorm room.
18-year-old Chinese national Weilang Wang was arrested overnight this past Tuesday, arraigned Wednesday and is still being held on $7,500 bail.
A Umass spokesman says the alleged incident happened on Tuesday night, when Wang had a visitor in his room. The victim fell asleep and that's when she says she was attacked. She immediately called police and Wang was arrested at Building B in the campus' North Residential Area.
The victim did receive medical attention, but University officials have yet to confirm whether or not she was a student. One senior who lives in the building told 22News that she was surprised by the incident.
“I feel like it's really secure. I mean we have to like tap our cards to get in three times. I don't think it's going to impact how I feel safety wise,” Alison Rose said.
If Wang posts bail, he must surrender his passport, report to the Dean of Students upon release, and abide by harassment restraining order conditions.
