NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) -

The Northampton DPW is implementing restrictions for outdoor water use.

City residents are now allowed only one day per week for automatic irrigation for lawns and flowers, washing of vehicles, other than a commercial car wash, and washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks.

First time offenders can face a $100 dollar fine, $200 for a second offense.

DPW Director Edward Huntley says the public will be notified when the restriction is lifted.
