WMass residents getting prepared for storm

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - People across western Massachusetts are getting their shovels ready, as the region could experience its first significant snowfall of the season.

Winter officially arrived last week, and people in New England are for the most part ready for storms like this.

Area residents have been busy going into local hardware stores to pick up some of the essentials they may be running low on; everything form salt to shovels. Others went to gas stations to fill up their tanks, just in case they are stuck without fuel.

Whether they like the snow or not, most people say they are at least ready for whatever happens Wednesday night.

“I don't like the cold, I don't like New England, I wish I was down South,” Alan Ballou of South Deerfield said. “I am prepared as much as I would think I am.”

“We're prepared, we've thought about it, we have new tires on the car and it shouldn't be a problem,” Wayne Millington of Pennsylvania said. “You know, you always hope the highway department is out there before you, you don't want to beat them to the road, but we'll be fine.”

There already are parking bans in effect in several western Massachusetts communities, including Springfield, Holyoke, Northampton, Pittsfield, Palmer, and West Springfield.
