CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A new bill sponsored by a state representative from Hampshire County calls for the legalization of marijuana.

Amherst State Representative Ellen Story is the lead sponsor of the bill, which would legalize marijuana and tax it to generate revenue for our cash-strapped state. The law would be regulated and taxed like alcohol.

That's where 22News inFocus comes in. We're working for you with what you need to know about this bill, both the pros and cons of the controversial proposal.  We'll tell you what the law change would mean for you, your family, and the war on crime and drug addiction.

Joining us to give us some perspective on this legislation we will have the Attorney who wrote the Marijuana Legalization Bill, and the clinical director of a Recovery Center in Springfield. We also traveled to Rep. Ellen Story's home in Amherst to find out why she's advocating for this bill.

We'll tell you why she is so passionate about this proposal, and why she says so many of her constituents are standing behind it.
