New York City, NY (WWLP) - Ten years ago our country was attacked, right here on our own soil. Almost 3,000 Americans lost their lives on this tragic day. It all began when terrorists hijacked two planes and flew them into the twin towers in New York City. Soon after, a third hijacked plane hit the Pentagon near Washington D.C., and a fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
It was a terrible violation of everything America stands for, and drastically changed the way we feel about our safety and security. From that day on, a lot was done in an effort to make Americans safer, both right here on land, and in the skies.
So this week 22News InFocus we'll examine what that fateful day meant for our country, and how far we've come during the past decade. We're also working for you with important information you need to know about your security, and controversial safety measures like full body scans, government wiretapping, and internet privacy matters.
