New Hampshire stores with their tax free appeal, hope to lure holiday shoppers from western Massachusetts to spend their gift giving dollars across the border.
Those stores would likely be targeting shoppers just across the state line in Franklin County.
22News spoke with Greenfield shoppers. One woman was emphatic; she has no intention of traveling to New Hampshire to do her holiday shopping.
“No it's not worth it because number one gas. I can walk downtown and get all my shopping done on Main street and support the local businesses here and grow the town,” said Nicola Shipman of Greenfield.
On Monday 22News Franklin County Bureau reporter Shane Symolon will take a trip to New Hampshire.
He'll return with a report on just how much of the tax free sales to the North can siphon off Holyoke shopping dollars here in western Massachusetts.
