Families took advantage of the long holiday weekend to take in Springfield's museums instead of shopping today.

There were all kinds of hands-on activities and admission gets you into the new Museum of Springfield History, the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden and all the rest.

Kileen Alexanderson sees it as an alternative to the madness of Black Friday, "I hate shopping so this is a lot more fun. The kids are enjoying it and something different, they like the fish, we are looking forward to going to the car museum."

If you missed the fun today, the museums are open through the weekend.
