SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Police say the Cathedral High School student who was fatally stabbed inside a Springfield club was a "peacekeeper" and was trying to break up a fight when he was injured.
On Tuesday night, 20 year-old Eric Denson was arrested and charged with the murder of 17 year-old Conor Reynolds.
At a news conference on Wednesday morning, District Attorney William Bennett said there is no apparent motive in the murder.
Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet said that Reynolds was apparently trying to break up a fight on the dance floor inside the club when he was stabbed in the neck .
"Conor Reynolds died attempting to be a peacemaker. He was a fine upstanding young man whose legacy to his family, loved ones, and the entire city will be just that - a peacemaker," Commissioner Fitchet said.
Fitchet said his friends were trying to get Reynolds medical help and brought him outside, where he collapsed between two cars in the parking lot.
Detectives were able to track down Denson through anonymous Text-a-Tips, witness statements and area businesses that came forward with information.
