PLAINFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - There has been a disturbing report of animal cruelty at a Plainfield farm.
Officer Stacey Magdycz of Plainfield Police Department told 22News at about approximately 4:30 Monday afternoon a 911 call had been placed after a car hit a cow that had made its way into the street.
The cow then took off down the street to the barn on the corner of Pleasant St. and South Central St.
Animal Control later went to the barn to find the injured cow when they smelled an awful odor and spotted many flies.
Inside the barn, they found five dead cows, seven cows that were alive but possibly malnourished, and one calf.
The farm was once a working milk farm and was passed from father to son Eugene Thatcher.
The cows that are alive will be taken to a Boston area rehab facility so they may recover.
Eugene Thatcher told Officer Magdycz he was working on getting the farm running again but was facing some difficulties.
