LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Get ready to pay more to light up if you buy your cigarettes in Connecticut.
Starting today, the state's cigarette tax jumped from 2 to 3 dollars a pack.
Even with this hike it costs more to smoke in Massachusetts.
In the Bay State, there is a 2 dollar 50 cent excise tax as well as the standard sales tax, bringing the total to about $8.25 per pack.
Now, the price new discrepancy between Connecticut and Massachusetts is a lot less.
The increase in Connecticut is part of the new two-year, $37.6 billion state budget.
