A year after that tanker truck explosion on 1-91 at the Chicopee
Curve that killed a truck driver, work is ending on the
environmental clean-up from that accident.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection
oversaw the process. The main concern was preventing groundwater
contamination and preventing a runoff the thousands of gallons of
gasoline that spilled from the tank.
It was a long process, crews working down the side of a highway bridge abutment. Work also involved removing contaminated soil for the site.
Skiba says there is no residual contamination at the site and
the site will be closed out.
Truck driver, Aaron Staelens was killed in that accident.
