WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's a special tribute to a fallen hero who loved kids.
The tenth annual John DiNapoli Memorial Golf Tournament is raising money to support youth programs in Holyoke.
360 golfers from across the region participated at the East Mountain Country Club in Westfield on Monday. According to DiNapoli's daughter, Jobeth, over 300-thousand dollars has been raised from the past nine tournaments.
"My father was a big supporter of the kids of Holyoke, so, we thought this would be a great tribute to him," said Miss DiNapoli.
All the proceeds from the tournament go to different organizations in the city of Holyoke, most that aid children's groups.
The Holyoke Boys and Girls Club, many sports organizations and scholarships have benefited from the golf tournament's proceeds.
Holyoke Police officer John DiNapoli was shot and killed in the line of duty on December 22, 1999. A dinner in his honor will be held Monday evening at the Log Cabin Banquet and Meeting House.
