Local Muslim group condemns shooting

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - They called what happened at Fort Hood unjustified and "cowardly."

The Islamic Society of Western Massachusetts publicly condemned the massacre at Fort Hood, Texas.

The West Springfield-based group felt compelled to make a statement after realizing the alleged shooter is a Muslim.

"We condemn this attack, because it is the nature of the faith to stand against these crimes," said Imam Wissam Abdul Baki. "And also as a part of this multi part community, we are American and we share with all American."

The imam called what happened at fort hood a "common tragedy," saying that Muslims all over the country share the same feelings of sympathy and sadness for the victims' families.
