SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Carl Walker-Hoover hanged himself April 6th after being bullied by a group of students at New Leadership Charter School.
Superintendent of Springfield Public School Dr. Alan Ingram hasn’t addressed the public since the incident.
22news went to the school department to get some answers.
Ingram wouldn’t talk to our crew, instead he sent his press secretary, Azell Cavaan, with a message. "While the terrible tragedy that happened at New Leadership School does affect us all, it's not directly in any way connected with Springfield public schools, “said Cavaan. “So it hasn't been appropriate for the Superintendent to comment on the terrible tragedy that occurred outside his district that really has no jurisdiction over what so ever."
Cavann said the charter school operates independently of
Springfield Public Schools governance and policy.
It's over seen by the Urban League of Springfield.
Since Carl's death on April 6th principals throughout the city have sent home letters to parents.
Other schools have held assemblies addressing the taunting trend.
