SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - With the closing of the MSPCA Animal Care and Adoption Center in
Springfield, people are wondering where there are other shelters in
the area for homeless animals.
Here in Western Massachusetts there are several animal
shelters.
They are: The Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Care & Adoption
Center in Springfield, and the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society
in Leverett.
There are two in Pittsfield: the Berkshire Humane Society and
the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter. Each shelter has different
animal acceptance guidelines, so call first.
Also the MSPCA has other shelters across the state in Boston, on
Cape Cod in Centerville and on Nantucket.
There is also the Nevins Farm in Methuen and the New
Beginnings Dog Rescue in Bondsville.
Each shelter has different animal acceptance guidelines, so call
first.
The MSPCA was forced to close the Springfield Adoption Center
because of financial losses.
Its law enforcement officers will still be responding to
complaints of abuse and neglect here in western Massachusetts.
