(WWLP) - Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society is launching a Meals on Wheels program, for pets!

As part of its goal to prevent animal homelessness, the Humane Society's teaming up with the Highland Elder Services program which delivers meals on wheels in Hampshire County.

Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society Director of Community and Media Relations Candy lash told 22News; "We all know how important a pet companion can be to an elderly person. And this is part of our "Safety Net" program to help keep animals in their homes, to try to help those who are in danger of having to surrender their animal if it's a decision between feeding themselves and keeping their pet."

Lash said they're launching the program in Hampshire County Tuesday, December 3rd.

They plan to expand the program into Franklin and Hampden Counties over the next three years.
