SPRINGFIELD, Mass.(WWLP) - Construction along Interstate 91 in Springfield has become a big headache for motorists.
Driving along I-91 in some spots resembles an obstacle course,
with lane reductions and barrels in the road. Since late spring,
there have been lane reductions on I-91 just north of downtown
Springfield and there is no relief in sight.
Spokesman for the Executive Office of Transportation Adam
Hurtubise told 22News that traffic setup due to work on several
bridges will remain through the winter.
There's also been construction going on with on and off ramps to I-91 -- like the Longhill Street exit heading south to Hartford.
Hurtubise also told 22News for the Routes 83 & Route 5 projects the contractor will be grinding down the surfaces of the approaches and trailing ends for the bridges the week of Columbus Day.
They will be paving the bridges and the contractor expects to
have all bridges open by October 21, much to the relief of
motorists.
