LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Preparing for the worst case scenario keeps law enforcement at the ready.
The Hampden County Sheriff's tactical command unit had their annual muster in Ludlow today. Dozens of officers practiced maneuvers designed to put down riots and help the injured. Canine members got a workout as well.
Nick Cocci, assistant superintendent of tactical command says the practice is necessary to keep skills at the ready. "We bring all our tactical members together and we show our proficiency and what we have learned throughout the course of the year. It's important in case we have to roll out specifics of what we do. We have to know that we have the ability, the resources and the know how to execute," said Cocci.
The tactical team primarily focuses on situations that may occur at the jail, but are prepared to support other law enforcement agencies if called for assistance.
