SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield teacher is honored for helping make a big difference in a student's life.
Marcus Kiley Middle School teacher, Mark Laurenzano home tutors 14-year-old Raul Rodriguez because he's very sick.
Raul's condition was taking a toll on his grades and self-esteem, but thanks to Laurenzano's mentorship, he's doing a lot better.
Today, Representative Cheryl Coakley Rivera recognized his efforts.
Raul's an 8th grader at Chestnut Accelerated Middle School and met Laurenzano as part of a home tutoring program.
The 14-year-old plans on attending Putnam Vocational Technical High School next year.
