GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A tough economy has charitable organizations looking for new
ways to raise money.
The United Way in Franklin County has felt the pinch in
giving, as demand for their services.
So they're switching their focus.
Their fundraising drive at Baystate Medical center began
today, here with activities and a dunk tank for the upper
management.
United Way fundraisers say they're concentrating on getting
smaller donations through more people.
They say it can have a second benefit, getting more people
involved in helping their community.
"We just did a backpack event where last year we raised 150
back packs and this year we raised 254, so we're finding that
people that can help want to help, so we hope that continues for
the rest of the campaign."
The United Way says people have been getting more comfortable
giving this summer, thawing some of the tough economic fears.
