CHICOPEE, Mass (WWLP) - A sobriety checkpoint in Hampden County ended in 9 arrests.

State and local police teamed up for the latest checkpoint here in the pioneer valley on Memorial Drive in Chicopee overnight.

Over 200 hundred cars passed through police lines. 9 people were arrested and charged with OUI’s.

State Police Lt. Michael Habel described for 22news what they were looking for at those stops.

“We do a brief interview with the people on the road and then if we feel there is s need,” said Lt. Michael Habel, Massachusetts State Police. “We bring them in for further sobriety tests.”

In May, a checkpoint in downtown Springfield ended in 12 arrests.
