Springfield, Mass. (WWLP) - They've been walking all night, in and out of the rain and they're still going this today. It's the American Cancer Society of Greater Springfield's Annual Relay for Life.
The relay kicked off with the traditional "survivor's lap" around the track at Springfield College. Almost everyone's life has been touched by cancer, and these walkers march for very personal reasons.
Lynn Labelle of Ludlow said, "My sister Dian passed away from Breast Cancer in 2002, and we are here to remember her, and keep fighting the fight."
Anne Gagnon of Chicopee added, "My daughter had cancer two years ago, breast cancer, and I just felt like maybe I should do something to pay back what happened to her. She succeeded. She's doing very well."
22News Anchor Jackie Brousseau helped kick off the event at Springfield College. The pledges support cancer research and patient services here in Western Massachusetts, and they'll keep walking until today at three. t's not too late; you can join in anytime.
