Springfield, Mass. (WWLP) - People in western Massachusetts are a little concerned after learning that anti-gang funds could be the first to go in a proposed budget.
On Beacon Hill, 'Shannon Grants' are one of the top items on the chopping block right now if the "State House One" version of the budget passed as it is.
The money is specified to help curb gang violence out on the streets, and to give local students the tools to make the right decisions when confronted with gang recruitment.
Many say these funds are critical in order to help kids fight the pressure of gangs.
It is possible that some of the anti-gang grant money could be restored through the amendment process, but it is anyone's guess as to how likely that is to happen.
