WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Applebee's Bar and Grill is just one of a few chain restaurants that offered a free entree and side dish to any veteran and active duty personnel.

The Applebee's in Westfield was jam-packed Wednesday night with veterans and their families.

One woman told 22News, her family went out to eat to show their appreciation to her father who served in the marines.

"My mother actually heard about it. We decided to take dad out and it was just something we should do to honor him," said Melissa Hartman of Westfield.

Wednesday night's free meal for vets event was quite popular. There was about an hour wait to get a table at Applebee's.
