Arson attempt evacuates local residents

Flammable liquid found on apartment floor

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Residents in Holyoke had to be evacuated Thursday morning after someone apparently attempted arson in an apartment building.

A resident of 352 Maple Street in Holyoke called the Fire Department around 4 o’clock in the morning after noticing the smell of a suspicious liquid.

Holyoke Fire Department Investigator Jordan Lemieux told 22News a flammable liquid appeared to be poured on the floor of the apartment. Everyone on the second and third floors was ordered to evacuate.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.
