(WWLP) - The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for West Central Worcester County in Central Massachusetts, Southeastern Franklin County in Western Massachusetts, Northwestern Hampden County in Western Massachusetts, and Hampshire County in Western Massachusetts.

This includes the cities of Northampton and Amherst until 11:00pm edt.

At 9:18pm edt, the National Weather Service doppler radar indicated an East-West oriented line of heavy showers and thunderstorms across Western Massachusetts.

These storms may bring rainfall rates of over 1 inch per hour through 11:00pm as they move slowly eastward.

Precautionary / preparedness actions:

Heavy rain will bring rises to creeks and small streams. This may result in minor flooding of low lying areas along their banks including some countryside roads and farmland.

Do not drive through areas where water covers the roadway. The water may be too deep to allow you and your vehicle to cross safely.
