GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Cleanup is underway in Greenfield Wednesday as people try to put their lives back together after a devastating fire.

Many of the tenants of the Chapman Street apartment building that burned say they do have a new place to live, some signing leases on Wednesday.

A crane took apart the top floors of the building. Building trustees say they are going to try to save the bottom half of the building, and reconstruct the rest.

Many residents lost everything, which makes the transition harder, even if they can find a place. "People its like they're homeless still. Its not easy to find a place, it's winter time, ya know," said Joseph Beauchesne.

The Moose Lodge in Greenfield is accepting clothing donations for the displaced families. The clothes will be handed out on Friday.
