SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts is the mecca for fall foliage lovers during Columbus Day weekend.
Dozens hit the road Sunday for a day of leaf peeping. Route 116 in Franklin County showcases the many colors of Autumn through the communities of South Deerfield, Conway and Ashfield.
Most people 22News spoke to traveled quite some distance to see the foliage. Paul Elkins came all the way from Alaska. Well just love the colors of nature, the bright reds, yellows gold," he said.
Mary Booth from Grand Rapids, Michigan told 22News the foliage back home cannot compare with what is here in western Massachusetts. "What I love about the foliage here is that it's so panoramic a view. At home we have a lot of beautiful trees, beautiful foliage, mostly Maples, but here you can get up on an elevation where you can look out and you can look out and it's just all the way around."
Columbus Day weekend is generally when you will see peak color across western Massachusetts.
