LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) - It wasn't a lazy Sunday for employees of the De Vinci Hair Salon in Ludlow. They held a cut-a-thon and donated all the proceeds to save Springfield's Shriners Hospital from closing.

All the men and women who came to the cut-a-thon left with less hair, but more appreciation for the work of the hospital.

"I've been a Shriner's kid for five years and my mom's a nurse over there. So I wanted to come to support the cause," said Kristy Hall of Agawam.

"I'm here to support a fabulous cause. To help out the Shriners, I know they're in trouble," said Ludlow's Susan Blake.

Western Massachusetts may learn as soon as next month if the Shriners Hospital will either dodge the bullet, or become a casualty of a cash-strapped economy.
