HUNTINGTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Last winter's brutal ice storm that shut down some Western
Massachusetts hilltown schools for more than a week has come back
to haunt students.
Kids attending Gateway Regional schools in Huntington have to
make for lost time this week and wait a bit longer for summer
vacation.
Middle school students told 22News, they're taking the delay in
the start of their summer vacation in stride.
Sarah Parker, an 8th grader, said, "We all knew that we were
going to lose most of April vacation which we did. It's okay."
"Because we like to see friends, we don't have to do stuff
outside, we just hang out here," said another 8th grader Zach
Strycharz.
The December ice storm had quickly eaten up the 5 snow days
the state grants each school system here in Massachusetts.
