HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The disgraced Holyoke elementary school teacher allegedly caught in a sex scandal with an eighth grade student pleaded not guilty to enticing a minor Friday morning.
22News Reporter Jaclyn Cashman has exclusive video of Lisa Lavoie's release into her parent's custody.
After nearly a week and a half behind bars both in Holyoke and in West Virginia the former educator is now out on bail.
Only 22News cameras caught 24-year Lisa Lavoie leaving Holyoke District Court for her first taste of limited freedom since late last month.
Just an hour earlier, we were there when her family handed over $25,000 posting her bail.
In court Assistant District Attorney James Goodhines said prosecutors planned to pursue several counts of statutory rape against Lavoie.
Assistant District Attorney James Goodhines said, "Beginning back in the month of October this past school year the relationship began and became sexual. The statement included her having sex with him at her apartment and in her vehicle."
Attorney David Hoose, Lavoie’s lawyer, said, "The young man made a statement saying he had a sexual relationship with someone over 18 so that is all they have to show to pursue those charges."
ADA James Goodhines said in court Lavoie fled the state with the 15 year-old when she learned his parents knew of the affair. They were caught at Super Eight Motel in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Lavoie has to wear an electronic monitoring device on her ankle. The former teacher is staying at her mom’s house in Ludlow.
ADA James Goodhines told 22News a conviction on the enticement charge could keep Lavoie behind bars for five years. Rape convictions can carry a sentence of life in prison.
Lavoie will be back in court on April 24th.
