CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - An emotional ceremony was held at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee for fallen airmen.
The tribute honored the 13 former Westover Airmen who were killed in plane crashes during mid-air re-fueling operations during the 1950's and 1960's.
The son of one such airman told 22News, the sound of Taps filled him with intense memories.
"It's a day of memories when I started hearing taps a little while ago, because I was transported back to a day in June, 1963, I was seven years old," said Dana Donahue.
His father's name, along with those of the 12 other crash victims are inscribed in a memorial stone plane replica on the base.
