SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society says its ready to breath new life into the recently closed Springfield MSPCA building.
The Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society first began when a Leverett and Greenfield Shelter merged. Ever since, their Greenfield center was used for rescue and rehabilitation, while their Leverett facility accounted for most of their adoptions.
For years they've been looking to find a way to afford a new building and now they say they're ready to expand.
"We were founded by Janet Dakin in 1982, the Pioneer Valley Humane Society was founded as the Greenfield Animal shelter in the 1960's so we've been in this area serving people for an awfully long time," said Leslie Harris of the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society.
The humane society said their Greenfield shelter will have to be
closed but that it will only be a slight inconvenience because they
say the Springfield building will be a better facility to serve
their needs and the needs of the animals.
