SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Funeral services were held Thursday morning to honor a Massachusetts State Trooper killed in a motorcycle accident.
Forty-year-old Dennis Eugin was off duty when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on South Westfield Road in Feeding Hills early Friday morning.
"I opened up the newspaper on Saturday and saw that a State Trooper had been killed in a motorcycle accident off duty, “ Sharyn Trombley said. “Then I read a little further down and burst into tears."
Nearly 100 state troopers and police officers came to attention as friends and family poured into St. Stanislaus in South Deerfield to pay tribute to Dennis Eugin.
Eugin leaves behind his immediate family in Deerfield and Turners Falls, including his 13 year-old daughter and 16 year-old son.
He was described as a loving father to his son and daughter, as well as a golfer, snowmobiler and avid fisherman.
Those who new Eugin told 22News he was a dedicated father and a faithful friend.
"A great guy all around, “ fellow co-worker Ken Burke said. “He was always there for you. You just had to make the call and he'd be there for you."
Eugin joined the State Police in 1996 and was assigned to the Shelburne Falls barracks.
Donations are being accepted in Eugin’s memory to the Jacob and Courtney Eugin Scholarship Fund, Greenfield Cooperative Bank, Federal Street, Greenfield, Mass. 01301.
