A 17-year-old girl broke her own mother's legs when she was practicing how to drive and mistakenly stepped on the gas instead of the brake.
Sgt. Thomas Long said the incident occurred Saturday morning at the movie theater parking lot behind the Springfield Plaza on St. James Ave.
The mother was rushed to Baystate Medical Center.
The girl's father, 39-year-old Trevor Blair was in the passenger side of the vehicle. He told 22News he was instructing his daughter when she hit the gas, lost control, and struck her mother who was sitting on a fence.
"I told her to stop and when she went to stop she panicked and accelerated and ran into her mom, hurting her legs," explained Blair.
Blair said he was issued a citation from the police for letting an un-licensed driver operater a vehicle.
22News put in a call to the Springfield Police Department to get more details, but they are not releasing any more information at this time.
