Workers at Stanley Park in Westfield were busy preparing for Friday's festivities.

The 3rd annual Grand Old 4th of July Lights for Liberty extravaganza is expected to draw thousands.

The event kicks off at 5:30. Three bands will play until 9:00pm, when the fireworks show begins.

Residents told 22News the trick is to get there early and prepare to have fun.

"Lots of music going on, good food. Bring your blanket and your chair. We bring a cooler with sodas don't we? We're hoping the rain holds off so we can come tonight," said Nancy McBride.

The event is sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Westfield and United Bank.

All parking will be in the Westfield State College parking lots across the street.
