SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Casino gambling is not legal in Massachusetts, but that's not
stopping the Mohegan Sun Tribe from promoting its proposal to build
a resort casino in Palmer.
Fifty to 75 people watched a video presentation put on by the
tribe at the Springfield Sheraton Tuesday night. The Mohegans are
promising thousands of jobs -- bout 1,000 construction jobs
and 2,500 to 3,000 permanent jobs -- if their project is built in
Palmer.
But not everyone attending the forum was in favor casino
gambling.
"I know in the first years after Atlantic City there was a big
increase in homelessness. There was a big increase in crime.
Property values at first went up and then went way way down,"
Joseph Gervasini said.
A major casino hearing is scheduled for Thursday on Beacon
Hill.
